Crochet/Knitting Class: The Fleur Sweater by Sandnes Garn

Crochet/Knitting Class: The Fleur Sweater by Sandnes Garn

Join us in making this adorable, new design.  The fleur sweater is a modern take on a granny square sweater and is suitable for an intermediate crocheter and knitter.  It is constructed with many small granny squares that are pieced together and then finished with knitted cuffs, waistband and neckline.  It’s designed as a cropped sweater with a boxy fit but you can customize the fit to suit your preferences and shape.
This sweater is designed in Sandnes Garn Tynn Peer Gynt AND Tynn Silk Mohair HELD TOGETHER as one yarn. This combination of yarns gives a lovely, soft halo to your sweater and helps to create the illusion that the fabric is an all-over lace rather than individual granny squares.  The mohair addition does add a bit of challenge to this project though, so some experience working with this type of yarn is helpful, but not required,  for this class. These yarns are available in our shop in several fun colors.
Skills needed: Intermediate crochet (granny square construction and seaming) and intermediate knitting skills (ribbing, picking up stitches, decreasing, Italian cast off (optional))
Adults only, not suitable for brand new knitters or crocheters.
Sessions: This class will meet 6 times for 2 hours each session:
  - Twice in early summer to learn how to make the squares and ensure that we are achieving the proper finished size for each square (please bring several crochet hooks to class in a range of sizes from 3-5 mm)
We will then “break for summer” so that you can work on all your squares.  It’s a wonderful, portable vacation/travel project.  We’ll meet again in the Fall after everyone completes their squares to assemble and finish the sweater.  (If anyone needs assistance during the summer break time, you are welcome to join the Thursday afternoon Knitting/Crochet circle anytime to get assistance with your squares)
Four sessions in the Fall will cover:
- washing and blocking your squares
- Assembling the sweater using an invisible seaming technique
- picking up stitches for knitting the cuffs, hem and neckline
- finishing techniques
Materials: Will depend on the size you make
  • Pattern available at homesewn
  • Sandnes Garn Tynn Peer Gynt AND Tynn Silk Mohair
Please bring crochet hooks, tapestry needle, scissors and a flexible measuring tape to every class.  When we finish the seaming of the squares, you’ll need knitting needles in a size approx 1.0 mm smaller than the crochet hook that you use to complete the squares.  You’ll need needle cable lengths adequate for chest, neck and sleeve circumferences (or magic loop length)

Materials purchased at homesewn will receive a 15% discount.
